About me: |
|
Tokyo Diiva was born on July 31, late 80s in the Swagg City of New York to Jamaican parents. As the middle child between four siblings, (an older sister and brother and two younger brothers) Tokyo quickly learned how to get attention. She was the funny one, outgoing one and the entertainer of the family. Her father was in and out of jail and as a result, she was raised by her mother alone, who instilled a strong work ethic. Tokyo displays this characteristic to this day by spending countless hours in the studio, writing at home, rehearsing and self-promoting on www.myspace.com/tokyodiiva At a young age, Tokyo decided she wanted to be a model/actress. At the age of 6, she went to Barbizon school for modeling where she learned how to strut her stuff. This helped shape Tokyo’s musical sensibility and attitude. Lyrics about feeling hot and walking tough are fun, sexy and competitive. Her first manager and very close friend tragically died of a heart attack. In the fall of 2006 manager and President of Lefthook Entertainment discovered Tokyo rapping along with her I-pod on the F train at Rockefeller Center. They struck up aconversation and two weeks later Tokyo had a new manager. Tokyo co-wrote and co-produced the song “Welcome To The Bad Girls Club” that can be heard weekly on the Oxygen network as the opening theme for the reality show “The Bad Girls Club.” Tokyo’s myspace is a phenomenon with over 2 million song plays and 2million profile views. Tokyo hit the 1 spot for unsigned artist on myspace. Tokyo’s Juice Krew is its own culture with skaters, singers, rappers, dancers, clothing designers etc. and most importantly, trensetters. She is the founder and CEO of the Juice Krew and appoints presidents of local Juice Krews that hold auditions for new members. 20 cities so far in the US and it’s growing everyday. Tokyo is the first unsigned artist to perform on TRL on MTV and has been dubbed a Fashion Icon throughout the US and other countries. Tokyo describes her style as “A futuristic retro twist on emo with a sprinkle of animation. . . .i am NOT retro!!” Tokyo describes her Music as “Rap, pop, and a touch of IDGAF. . . .[giggles] I make anthems that everybody can relate to, especially all my dope females. The girls love me because im a leader, love me because I say what they die to say to most females and because im so extra with the way I talk and dress, and the Boys love me because they wanna date me. . . .im bound to go platinum and be a icon” - Tokyo Diiva Tokyos Music influences range froma variety of artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gwen Stefani, Cyni Lauper, Janet Jackson and Biggie.
