Factor 11 covers some of the best classic rock ever recorded and blends in its own original classic/alt rock songs. We think we have a fresh sound that appeals to a wide variety of people. We aim for guitar driven harmony rock. We use our covers to help people relax and have a good time and our original music to hit on personal or social issues that confront 21st Century people e.g. drug addiction, starting over in life etc. The main exception is a song we wrote called: Good Looking People Drink Wine. Bad Looking People Drink Beer. This song is designed to set people against each other in a positive fun way so they can disagree and have a good time doing it.
The bands musical influences start in the 60s (where good classic rock started) and keep going into the present. Influencing artists are: Beatles, Cold Play, Elvis (rockin Elvis, not fat Elvis) Queen, U2, and Beach Boy harmonies.
Factor 11 has two generations of quality musicians. Three band members are sons of other band members. It keeps things fresh. Factor-11 band members range in age from 17 to 50. You find Latino, South African and New England connections in the Band. With a diverse group like this it is hard to pin down what everyone likes, but one thing keeps the band together: We all like each other
Factor 11 band members reach out to the community and team up with local interdenominational church groups to connect with incarcerated youth at the Marin County Juvenile Hall facility. Music can be a "bridge" to providing hope for a better life and freedom from the repeat cycles of crime and drug addition. We meet chronic felons , as well as kids who just stayed out too late, in Juvenile Hall. The stories are very interesting. What is most satisfying is meeting some of these kids, impromptu on the street, or in a supermarket, when they come up to you and ask if you remember them and then tell you how their lives have changed for the better.
Factor-11 plays in a wide variety of venues in Northern California. We focus on county fairs, festivals and small clubs. We always get people up and singing and dancing, including wheel chair bound kids who sometimes seem to believe that faith and classic rock can get them out of the chair. It seems to work.
