About me:
This is in memory of a beautiful seventeen year old girl who passed away this past September. She had been battling a painful type of cancer since she was 15. If you have facebook, you can read her mom and dads journal entries for the past two years. The group is called Jenna's Journey.

Please visit her website!

Here is how it started:
It was late July 2007, when Chris and Jenna had visited here in NY for their summer vacation. We had a very good time with them, keeping ever so busy doing so many things. Jenna one evening was complaining of a sore stomach, and I thought it was perhaps the stomach flu or that time of the month. She went and laid down for a nap and woke up and said she felt better.
Jenna returned home to Canada and after another week of Jenna complaining of stomach pain to her dad, she told him something didn't feel right. On a Monday morning, Jenna went to see her family doctor and he suggested that Jenna have an ultrasound of her pelvis on Tuesday and then a CT Scan on Wednesday.
Jenna's dad and I had been communicating back and forth wondering what it could be. That Thursday evening was when our lives forever changed. Jenna's dad called me to tell me her findings. His words were "I don't know how to tell you this, Jenna has cancer". Immediately my heart dropped, I felt sick to my stomach and started to cry. No this can't be, she hasn't had blood work, or a biopsy. Her dad said they could tell from the size and shape of the tumor in her abdomen.
Shawn and I immediately packed and drove to Canada the next morning to be with Jenna for her biopsy. Jenna also was examined and went through a week of various tests. Bone Marrow aspiration,Bone Scans, MRI, CT Scans. Then the waiting began....
Jenna had her next appointment the following Thursday and we were told that Jenna had a very aggressive cancer called Avealor Rabdomyosarcoma. The cancer was Stage IV and had spread to both her hips, pelvis the lining of her lungs and a little on her spine. I have to say with the support of the nurses, doctors and support staff at the hospital, they were so compassionate and just there for us.
Jenna was asked when she wanted to start her treatments and she said right away. They told us that surgery to remove the tumor would be possible, after she went through 12 weeks of chemo to try and shrink it. The tumor was pushing against other organs therefore the surgeon stated he needed 'clear margins' before removing the tumor.
Shawn and I just couldn't believe this was happening. We returned home to NY and had so many concerns, questions and doubts along with why is this happening?

Jenna's Journey

Mama please don't worry
I'm in a brighter place
I'm laughing with the Angels
And there is no more pain
My time on Earth is over
But I'm alive and well
You know I'm not lying
Because you could always tell

You were always there to hold my hand
From the time that my life began
dry your tears and don't be sad
I had everything a girl could hope to have
I had your love your strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

Daddy please stop crying
You're breaking my heart
I know that you miss me
But I'm really not that far
Whenever you need me
Just look up to see my face
I'll always be your princess
Even time can not erase

You were always there to calm my fears
Every single day for seventeen years
Dry your eyes and don't be sad
See that picture and that great big smile I had
You gave me love and strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

You were always there to hold my hand
From the time that my life began
dry your tears and don't be sad
I had everything a girl could hope to have
I had your love your strength
Each step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey
You gave me love and strength
Every step of the way
The courage of an army
On my Journey
The courage of an army
On my Journey

JENNA'S FOUNDATION:
As many of you know Shawn and I decided to create a Foundation in honor of our beautiful Jenna. We are going through the proper channels to create this Foundation, and the legalities of it.
We have created this Foundation not only keep Jenna alive, but to help those less fortunate babies/kids/teens who are battling this nasty disease!
What we are asking everyone is to donate your clothes, your kids clothes that are 'gently used'. Remember there are even babies who are fighting Cancer, and there are so many families that are in need!
We know how much everyone loves Jenna and how she touched so many lives. She inspired so many people and Jenna would love this idea, as she was a selfless person who would help anyone!!
Just think, no more ugly hospital gowns. We want to lift these kids spirits by giving them clothes that are either warm, cozy, cool looking, etc. To put a smile on a child's face is so rewarding and you all can do this by helping with our Foundation.
Please invite your friends and family members to this group to spread the word of what we are going to do for others! It is our way of giving back!!!
"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE".
