About me: |
|
I guess you could call me a singer, songwriter and composer ´cos these are the things I basically do. And I´m lucky to be blessed with the opportunity of being born and bread in a society where music was kind of the order of the day. Nigeria being a multicultural nation, music in its variety and diversity was and still is felt and heard on a daily basis in every corner, street, business e.t.c. and often loud enough for every passerby to hear. As a kid I always wanted to sing. It was top on the list among the few things that made me happy. At 6 I fell in love with country and traditionals, at 10 I developed a passion for Hip hop, Jazz and R&B. But it was not until a few weeks after I turned 16 I got really introduced into the world of Reggae. A friend of mine was one day going through some of his father's LPs when he stumbled on Bob Marley's "Uprising". He invited me over the next day to listen to it as well and that was it. Reggae became part my "everyday".
Didn't trust myself to writing and composing until the age of 27 when I moved over to Germany. The reason I guess was partly because for the first time im my life I felt free to make my own independent decision. Away from the watchfull eyes of relatives. You know you just couldn't trust yourself to say you wanted to be a musician. It wasn't heard of and most especially if you come from a highly educated family. They listened to music alot, most could even sing a song or two but the general opinion of the life of the musician was completely naive. To them musicians are irresponsible people, drunkards and drug addicts. Anyway all that is now history.
My first song Halleluyah Rasterfarai was written and composed in ´98. Was and is still loved by all who listen to it. Since then there´s been no turning back. Over the years I have been able to put together a band of my own..."Godfrey and the Grand Sons". For more information, please visit my website...www.godfreymusic.de
See you hopefully in my next concert. |

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: |
|
|
| Main Influence: |
| Bob Marley.
|
| Most memorable moment in music: |
| The first time I really sang from my heart before a public. T´was the first time I sang without really paying attention to the public. I felt the way I always feel when I sing alone in closed doors without bothering about or paying attention to the reaction from watchfull eyes. I reached my first musical orgasm. And you know what, it was what they all wanted to see. That little club in Ulm, Germany, will always remain fresh in my memory. |
| Where do you see your career in five years: |
| To be able to have reached the other side of the Globe with my message I hope. |
| Where do you see your career in ten years: |
| Where the music takes me to. I cannot see the future but I do hope it´s bright. |
| Sum up your style in five words or less: |
| Tell it from the heart. |
